Ryanair holiday hopefuls are set to face travel chaos as the airline cancels flights to and from Spain, ahead of a month of strike hell. Spanish workers from unions USO and SITCPLA have planned walkouts across 13 bases in Spain, with strikes planned for the 1st, 2nd, 6th, 8th, 13th, 15th, 20th, 22nd, 27th and 29th September. Brits hoping for a late summer getaway could be faced with travel hell thanks to the mass walkout. The airline revealed as a result it has been forced cancelled six flights to/from Spain on Sunday 1st September, and eight flights to/from Spain on Monday 2nd September, with more expected on in the rest of the month. Ryanair says that it has already contacted affected customers by email and text offering them the options to either move their flight free of charge, or be issued a full refund. Passengers due to fly on the 1st or 2nd who have not been contacted by the airline, should expect their flight to go ahead. The strike action comes following a dispute between the airline and unions over closures of bases in the Canary Islands. But Ryanair said in a statement that the strikes would not change this. The airline blamed delays in delivery of Boeing Max aircraft as one of the reasons why the bases made a loss. Ryanair said it was still open to talks with the two unions in a bid to avoid further strike action. It has not revealed whether there will be any disruptions to its schedule on the other planned strike dates. But these are not the only walkouts Ryanair is facing in Spain. Union SEPLA has threatened strikes on the 19th, 20th, 22nd, 27th and 29th September, but it has said it would not go ahead if an agreement with the airline could be reached. The dispute, unrelated to that of USO and SITCPLA, is over the potential base closures in Tenerife and Girona which union reps say would lead to cutbacks and potential dismissals of pilots.
